Abstract

So just how, exactly, does one take something that works in a lab and turn it into a mass produced, globally marketed product? What could be done better to make the whole process more efficient at delivering 'lab marvel' into 'everyday utility'? What are the skill-sets of the people who do this kind of manufacturing development? How are those skill-sets complementary to and synergistic with the skills of scientists in academia? What is the best marriage of these diverse kinds of people to deliver results quickly and consistently? This article will discuss the steps from lab to manufacturing and the pitfalls and opportunities that can make the difference between success and failure.
