This article is a translation from German of a paper submitted by Kurt Hermann to the University of Zurich Prize committee in 1968, with additional editing by Jay Siegel. It covers a survey of the historical contributions of faculty at UZH to the fundamental development of stereochemistry. It is appropriate in light of the 90th birthday of Andre Dreiding, pioneer of stereochemistry and founder of the Buergenstock stereochemistry meeting, that we reflect on the chain of historical events responsible for UZH's leading role in this important molecular discipline.Downloads
