Fortgeschrittenenpraktika in Anorganischer und Polymerchemie im Rahmen einer ökologisch orientierten Ingenieurausbildung

Abstract

Based on the Zürich Model with the purpose of providing a contemporary curriculum for young chemical engineers, we reorganized the introductory chemistry courses as well as the advanced level courses in Inorganic and Polymer Chemistry at the Fachhochschule Darmstadt. Samples of inorganic compounds prepared by students are recycled to reusable starting materials (including quality control), waste water is treated, and organic solvents are recycled in high yields. In particular, the projects on waste water treatment and polymer recycling include state-of-the-art industrial methods such as the use of H₂O₂ and the application of UV irradiation. Special attention was also paid to the teaching of safe and responsible handling of especially hazardous and toxic substances such as Hg, CdS, cyanides, and others.
