A review on the the results of our efforts to provide synthetic access to some of the rare Aristotelia alkaloids is presented. We demonstrate that our original biomimetic approach can be applied successfully to some of the more elaborate representatives of this natural-product family as well. In the course of our investigations, several alkaloid structures that had been proposed a few years ago by other research groups were revised. In all these cases, the newly proposed structures have been established by unambiguous syntheses. At the same time, this account provides information concerning our latest, as yet unpublished results.Downloads
