Abstract

The crystal and molecular structure of the symmetrical octasilasesquioxane H8Si8O12 has been redetermined from three dimensional X-ray diffraction data. The H8Si8O12 molecule shows effective m3 (Th) symmetry. The molecular packing indicates intermolecular O…Si distances of ~3.6 Å reminiscent of incipient nucleophilic attack of O on Si. The anisotropic displacement parameters indicate non-rigidity of the molecule.
