Abstract

An electrochemical flow-through system allows a continuous measuring of Na+, K+, Ca++ and glucose-concentrations in the streaming blood of patients. For this bedside-analyser electrochemical sensors and reference junction are exchangeable, the total construction being organized as a building block system. Active phases for ion-selective disc-electrodes such as carrier antibiotics and synthetic neutral carriers are used. The continuous measuring of Na+, K+, Ca++ and glucose during and after intravenous glucose infusion is demonstrated.
