Abstract

Possible precursors of the attractive nonaheptafulvalene (3) are prepared by reaction of acetoxy-tropylium-fluoroborate (5a) as well as of bromo-tropylium-bromide (5b) with lithium-cyclononatetraenide. The structure of the substituted cycloheptatrienyl-cyclononatetraenes 6 has been proved by NMR-spectroscopy as well as by valence-isomerisation to acetoxycycloheptatrienyl- and bromocycloheptatrienyl-cyclononatetraenes 7a and 7b respectively.
