X-ray Induced Photo-electron Spectrometric Evidence for Heavy Metal Adsorption by Molybdenum Disulfide from Aqueous Solution

The adsorption of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Ag(I), Cd(II) and Pb(II) aquo ions, and of PdenCl2, on the surface of MoS2 is studied through the photo-electron spectra. If MoS2 has been immersed in pure or alkaline water, a mono-molecular oxide layer is formed, which seems to attach at least cobalt, nickel and lead.
