Abstract

Several attempts to realise the synthesis of triafulvene (1) and calicene (2) were, so far, unsuccessful. The reaction of a mixture of dichloro-cyclopropenes (7) with methyl-lithium and sodium cyclopentadienide gives 1-chloro-3-methyl-cyclopropene (8) and 1-chloro-3-cyclopentadienyl-cyclopropene (9) with 10 and 20 % yield respectively. Both compounds are extremely sensitive towards temperature and traces of acid.
