Abstract

Attempts to reproduce the synthesis of fulvenes claimed by Freiesleben (condensation of cyclopentadiene and carbonyl compounds in the presence of primary and secundary amines) are not successful, as far as the yields are concerned. The best yields (25% instead of 99,8%) are obtained with 6,6-dimethyl-fulvene, while in other cases the yields are often lower than 10%.
