Synthesis of Benzo-homotriasterenedione

Abstract

Bromination of 9,10-benzo-bicyclo[3.3.2]dec-9-en-3,7-dione (4) gave 74% of 3,7-dihydroxy-2β,4β,6β,8β-tetrabromo-9,9a-benzo-10-oxa-9-homoadamant-9-ene (5). Treatment of (5) with triethylamine yielded 31% of 2β,6β-dibromo-9,9a-benzo-10-oxa-9-homotwist-9-en-3,7-dione (6). Benzo-homotriasterenedione (1) was obtained by heating 5 with copper powder. Spectroscopic considerations confirmed all the structures, with especially the symmetries (C2v for 1, 4, and 5 as well as C2 for 6) being expressed by the 1H-NMR-spectra.
