Abstract

The infrared spectra of p-toluidine and its complexes with CoCl2, NiCl2, CuCl2 and ZnCl2 are discussed. 15N-Labelling of the nitrogen atom is used to assign bands originating in the vibrations of the amino-group. The metal-nitrogen stretching frequencies (νM–N) are assigned to bands which are sensitive to 15N-labelling and which shift on varying the coordinated metal ion in the expected sequence of metal-ligand bond stabilities: Co > Ni < Cu > Zn.
