Abstract

Synthesis and thermal behaviour of the title compounds, representing a novel (CH)10-system, are described. Two important thermal reaction paths have been found, the cleavage of the central σ-bond as well as opening of the cyclobutene ring. This latter kind of reaction has especially been observed with a highly strained 3,2,2-propellane, for which fission of the central σ-bond is impeded by steric reasons.
