Calcium Carrier Properties of Neutral Synthetic Ligands in Bulk Membranes

Abstract

A group of electrically neutral, acyclic and lipophilic ligands have been found to induce a selective Ca2+ transport through PVC bulk membranes when a potential gradient is applied. An infrared spectroscopic study demonstrated the mobility of the carrier within the membrane. The system shows saturation of the current-voltage relationship typical for carrier mediated ion conduction.
