Abstract

At room temperature both Z-isomers of O-acylated 1-acetyl-indan-2-ones are rapidly converted into each other by a thermal intramolecular 1,5-acyl shift. The corresponding E-isomer is thermally stable, a possible O-acyl migration is preceeded by an isomerisation of the C=C double bond, catalysed by protons or ultraviolet light.
