Abstract

The oxidation of diluted amalgams in the presence of traces of oxigen dissolved in water was studied with the purpose to find a method for the quantitative determination of traces of oxigen in gasses. Lead amalgam seems to be the most suitable amalgam for this analysis. Its oxidation was followed by measuring its potential as a function of time. Optimum conditions for the preparation of lead amalgam are given and an appropriate apparatus is described.
