Abstract

We have studied Cabroll, Claisen, Marbet and Saucy reactions with phytol and isophytol. Acetylacetoacetate, dimethyl acetamide-dimethyl acetal and ethyl-vinyl-ether are some of the reagents brought in to reaction. Of the obtained ketones, amides and aldehydes all, except one, are new compounds; their caracteristics are given in detail (IR, NMR, MS).

A comparison of the stereochemistry of the double bond of these products with that described for products obtained with smaller alcohols, shows that the presence of the phytyl chain has not, after all, a predominant influence.

By using the proper catalysts, temperatures and reaction times it was possible to obtain excellent yields and, in some cases, stereospecific reaction products.
