Abstract

A fast quantitative routine determination of the isotope molecules H2, HD, D2 with a conventional gas chromatographic apparatus is described. The column, 2 m in length and 4mm i.D., was filled with alcaline-etched and Fe2O3-impregnated glasspowder or beads of 0,09 to 0,12 mm diameter. After activation at 300 °C, a complete separation of HD/D2 in 2 minutes at 77°K was obtained using H2 as carrier gas with a flow rate of 75 ml/min. With a catharometer as detector and 0,5 ml samples of H2, HD, D2-mixtures, analysis in the concentration range between 0,05 to 100% of D are possible.
