Abstract

The chromatographic separation of the product resulting from the reaction of sodium and tetraphenylethylene on 2,6-di-bromomethylpyridine led to the isolation of two macrocyclic ring systems, [2.2.2](2,6)- and [2.2.2.2.2](2,6)pyridinophane. The structure of these new compounds was confirmed by NMR and mass spectra analyses.
