Abstract

Technical poly-ethyleneglycols of low molecular weight contain the oligomeres from ethyleneglycol to pentaethylenglycol. All these compounds of low molecular weight show the same rate of reaction when reacted with phenylisocyanate in the presence of triethylamine as catalyst. However, in the non-catalysed reaction with p-nitrophenylisocyanate small differences were encounted.
Cyclourethanes were synthesised and showed to be present in poly-etherurethanes by means of thin-layer chromatography (according to E. Stahl).
The results are discussed regarding the calculation of the molecular-weight distribution of poly-etherurethanes.
