Abstract

The measurement in human bones of the contamination by the strontium-90 from the stratospheric radioactive fallout requires highly sensitive apparatus. In this paper, a Geiger-Müller gas-flow counter having a high efficiency with a very low background is described. It is designed to have a great stability for measurements covering period of one to many days. The characteristics of the counters are given, as well as a summary of the data of the contamination found in bones for Switzerland in 1960.
